This follows the old German saying, "When in doubt, over complicate." It's what is currently on my car, the problem is trying to match the bends on it with either glass packs or a small two in, two out muffler.

I'm so glad this was a thing already made.

Except I DD the car and must maintain a certain volume so that I don't go deaf.

Well. I tried.

I hear you. (pun intended.) While replacing my catalytic converter, I had to make a trip to/from the parts store with an open header. Partly a total blast (pun intended) but I could see getting sick of it real quick. I'm still trying to find out what to do for my exhaust, because I would like it a bit revvier than stock.

That's the exact same reason why I swapped out the makeshift straight pipe on my Tipo. For short commutes, it was a blast, but try covering 300 km (~190 miles) with the engine blasting away at 4000 RPM (thanks short gears) and it was your ears that would get blasted.

For a while, I had a series of minor exhaust leaks that kind of tuned the sound to be really racey but not stupidly load, and I liked it. Then the factory rear flange split in half and fell off leaving me with a very loud 2 hour ride home.

How much is an aftermarket 2 stage exhaust that lets you run quieter when you want to?

Very

The only problem is that the pipes are so close together.

Lots of BMW guys have made it work. The alternative is a y pipe to a single in dual out or a single in single out.

I'll get some measurements in the morning, unless you can find someone who made a how to.

Magnaflow sells something similar as a catback for the e36 but it is like $600 and for just a little more you could get the borla catback. I say just buy the muffler and bring it and the stock exhaust to an exhaust shop and they could whip something up for probably like $150-$200

I really do want a stock muffler... Mine is a single in single out with dual tips right now. It works fine.

I do my own work.

Mine is dual, dual. Funny enough, the 328i has the same exact exhaust as a M3 of 1996 and to the end. Factory tubular headers and all.

Grassroots motorsports had a pretty good investigation a while back: http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/articles/sound…
They concluded that Burns Stainless racing mufflers were the highest performing and yet reasonably quiet.

Cut them here, stitch it back up.

I'm probably going to take a magnaflow 2-2 muffler or similar

If only I had a mig or tig welder. Acetylene doesn't like stainless

Nice. I wonder what is different about the one mine should have. I've never seen the stock one :(

Yes, I know the configuration. I just wondered the difference between my muffler and your stock muffler.

that is false.....
smh

So ridiculous dude. I recently replaced the stock system on the M3 with a Magnaflow system for a Camaro SS, and my exhaust guy said it saved me at least 40 pounds.

What are the differences? From what I've seen, they look the same.

the muffler is different....but the midpipe and the headers are the same part between the 328 and the M3

The parts diagrams confused me, thanks!
